Quick answer

For a 16cm (6.3-inch) wrist — the most common women’s size — a stretch bracelet needs about 22 beads of 8mm, 18 of 10mm, or 29 of 6mm. How bead count is calculated

A comfortable stretch bracelet is slightly longer than the bare wrist measurement: we add about 1.5cm (0.6in) of comfort room, the same allowance our design studio uses. Divide that total length by the bead diameter and you have your count.

Formula: bead count ≈ (wrist circumference + 1.5cm) ÷ bead diameter. A 17cm wrist with 8mm beads: (17 + 1.5) ÷ 0.8 ≈ 23 beads.

Counts are for round beads strung edge-to-edge on elastic cord, using the +1.5cm comfort allowance. Treat them as a starting point — mixing bead sizes or adding spacers changes the math, which the studio recalculates live as you design.

Bead diameter changes the whole personality of a bracelet more than any other choice.

Which size should you choose?

For a first crystal bracelet or a gift, 8mm is the safe, classic choice. Choose 6mm for smaller wrists or a layered look, and 10–12mm when the stone itself — a phantom quartz, a banded agate — deserves to be seen.

Questions people ask

How many 8mm beads for a 7-inch bracelet?

A 7-inch (17.8cm) wrist needs about 24 beads of 8mm on stretch cord, using a 1.5cm comfort allowance: (17.8 + 1.5) ÷ 0.8 ≈ 24.

Do bigger beads need a longer bracelet?

Slightly, yes. Larger beads arc further from the wrist, so a 12mm bracelet can feel snugger than an 8mm one at the same strung length — if in doubt, size up the comfort room a little.

Can I mix bead sizes in one bracelet?

Yes. Mixed sizes (for example a 10mm focal stone with 8mm supporting beads) look intentional and wear well; our studio recalculates the fit automatically as you add each bead.
